Frequently asked questions

How does the processing of fresh, raw materials affect the final product?

The ability to process fresh fish plays a key role in product purity and uniformity. ECOllagen is processed on-site, typically within 24 hours of the fish being caught. This practice ensures the integrity of the collagen peptides and minimizes waste, since the maximum amount of collagen is extracted per fish.

What are the benefits of using farm-raised vs. ocean-caught fish?

Marine collagen taken from ocean-dwelling fish can be contaminated with heavy metals and other undesirable trace elements. Using one source freshwater, sustainable, farm-raised fish minimizes this risk. Another disadvantage of using collagen from ocean fish is that it is often produced by blending the skins from a wide variety of species. In addition to the lack of traceability and uniformity, this practice is more likely to add unwanted odors and flavors to the collagen. This is not an issue with ECOllagen which is, unlike all collagens from ocean-caught fish, also low in sodium.

What are the advantages of marine collagen?

With its low molecular weight, marine collagen peptides provide excellent absorption and bioavailability. In addition, the risk of BSE/TSE is minimized with marine collagen and the fish origin makes them widely accepted across cultures and religions. For example, ECOllagen products are Halal certified.

Is ECOllagen® ASC certified?

ECOllagen is end to end ASC certified marine collagen, which underlines our commitment and efforts to deliver sustainable product, from a secure, environmentally – and socially responsible - supply chain. In addition it gives the brand owner (of the finished product) a possibility to communicate the products sustainable origin, by way of using the ASC logo on the packaging.

What are the benefits of single-source marine collagen?

More and more, producers and consumers, want to know where their products come from, and be assured that they are made in a safe, sustainable, and ethical manner. That’s exactly what our single-source process delivers. ECOllagen is sourced from the skins of a single species that is breed and raised in accordance with Good Aquaculture Practices (GAP), and end to end traceable. The first organization in the world to be certified Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) 4 Stars for hatcheries, feed production, Pangasius aquaculture, and processing (2015) is the sole supplier of raw materials for ECOllagen production. In addition, they were the first Pangasius producer in Vietnam to obtain ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) certification, which focuses on the cornerstones: environmental protection, community factors, food safety, and traceability. This traceability is one of the keys to consistently deliver high-quality collagen peptides.
